Kimmie Nguyen

Kimmie began skating at age 8 and quickly gained confidence in her abilities by being awarded the Florence Sifford Memorial Trophy in her first year! She is currently a sixth grader at St. Bernadette School in Springfield, VA and is competing at the Pre-Juvenile level. Her head coach is Dana Chinn Martin, but she also works with Nick Perna on her jumps as well as Sandy Sparger for her Moves in the Field. Kimmie stays dedicated to her skating with regular practice 5 days per week plus ballet and off-ice training. She says, “Even though it’s a lot of time and hard work, I love it very much and always look forward to going to the rink.”

During the 2012 season, Kimmie won the 1st place medal in the final round at the Hershey Open. At the South Atlantic Regional Competition, she placed 3rd overall in the Preliminary free skate final. Currently, Kimmie is working on mastering her double axel and is preparing for her upcoming Moves in the Field and Free Skate tests this spring. She hopes to build on her success from last year and is looking forward to the upcoming competition season.

Outside of skating, Kimmie loves to play with her pug, Hollie. She also enjoys going to the movies or shopping with her friends or just hanging out. When she isn’t focusing on her school work or skating, she finds time to play the clarinet in the St. Bernadette band. Her favorite skaters are Ashley Wagner, Michelle Kwan, Yuna Kim, and Kristi Yamaguchi.

Kimmie would like to thank her parents for being there and for taking her practices and competitions. Also, she would like to thank all of her coaches for their patience and dedication in helping her to achieve her skating goals.
