Emily Williams

Emily Williams is a 16 year old Senior Ladies competitor from Williamsburg, VA. She started skating at the age of four in Chesapeake, VA and currently considers the Skating Club of Northern Virginia her home club.

During Emily’s first year in Fairfax, at the age of 12, she moved up three freestyle levels from Pre-Preliminary to Juvenile. In her first competition as a Novice skater, she landed a perfect double axel. Later that same year, she landed a triple Salchow on her first try during a competition. At the end of her Novice year, she passed her Senior moves test, earning her a gold medal. In 2011, as a Junior skater, she came in first in her short program at Skate Wilmington and later that year placed fourth in the initial round at South Atlantics, earning her a place in the final round. After South Atlantics Emily passed her Senior free skate; earning her second gold medal. This year, in her first competition as a Senior skater at Skate Wilmington, Emily placed first in the short program and third in the free skate. Most recently at the Potomac Open, Emily placed third in the short program and fourth in the free skate. This year she hopes to earn another spot on the podium at Regionals.

Emily hopes to eventually become a technical specialist with the guidance of her head coach, Sandy Hurtubise. Emily is motivated by the thought of making her family and coaches proud, not to mention making herself proud, and her fondest skating moment is when she first landed her double axel. Emily has taught learn-to-skate classes for new skaters at Chilled Ponds in Chesapeake, and has volunteered to assist with skating classes for "MacArthur on Ice" in Norfolk. Along with skating, Emily enjoys writing and dance, especially ballet and jazz, and hopes to one day go to NYU for performing arts.
