GFSC Showers of Flowers Recital – 7/26

The Gardens Figure Skating Club at Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD is hosting a recital (aka Exhibition) for program practice Sunday, July 26, from 10 AM to 1 PM. All disciplines, ages, and levels welcome. The cost for SCNV members (non-GFSC) is $10 per program.

Scholar Awards Deadline – 7/31

Only two weeks left! For our young skaters, recognize your academic achievements with our annual Scholar Awards. Click HERE for our online application, and upload your PDF copy of your report card with computed GPA. Firm deadline is 7/31. See our club awards  webpage for more information.

Trading Ice for Sunshine! Save the Date for the SCNV Picnic – 8/2 ☀️

It’s time to take off the skates, step off the ice, and soak up some summer sun! Save the date for our annual SCNV Summer Picnic on Sunday, August 2nd, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Burke Lake Park.

Come out for an afternoon of food, games, and a great chance to hang out with coaches, skaters, and families in shorts and t-shirts instead of parkas and gloves!

Summer Testing – 8/9

SCNV will host an in-person test session Sunday morning, August 9, at Fairfax Ice Arena. Singles, Skating Skills, Solo and Partnered Pattern Dance will be offered, for standard, adult and adaptive tracks.

Did You Know?!
Education Incentive Available to Coaches, Officials and Prospective Officials
In recognition of the value of continuing education for coaches and officials as well as the need to train new officials, SCNV is pleased to offer an education incentive for the 2026-27 Season. SCNV will reimburse up to $100 per member as follows:
  • SCNV coaches, to defray the cost of educational opportunities, including Coach ICE, annual education and U.S. Figure Skating Technical School.
  • SCNV officials, to defray the cost of specific educational opportunities such as U.S. Figure Skating Continuing Education Schools/Technical Schools.
  • SCNV members who are prospective officials, to defray the cost of specific educational opportunities such as attending Judges’ School or appointment seminar.
Primary Home Club SCNV members in good standing are eligible for reimbursement. SCNV will reconsider reimbursement amounts and eligible education opportunities each year based on available funding.
